National Skills Academy for Construction projects work with the regional partnership to:

  • Become a centre of excellence for work-based learning
  • Creating a new benchmark in supporting the delivery of high quality learning and development for the full range of skills engaged in construction
  • Be employer driven
  • Employers who engage in the development of employment and skills plans for each project, develop initiatives to meet training and development needs and address skills issues
  • Become a focus for training

An effective network of providers, higher and further education, private training providers, and schools, all contributing to meeting the skills needs at the work based project level.

Training providers are expected to work towards the Training Quality Standard and to achieve parts A and B in Construction within 2 years.

In London, training providers have formed the London Construction Providers Partnership to provide consistent, high quality focused training. A booklet with details of the providers and the courses they offer is available to employers working on projects within the London area.

  • Strengthen community links

Provide training and learning opportunities for local people to engage effectively in construction as a career, from school, college or unemployed

  • Provide a more flexible approach to training and learning

Using a range of facilities including on-site or mobile facilities and also local education facilities.

  • Capture the lessons learned on each project as it progresses

The partnership can then share these lessons with the National Skills Academy for Construction network. For example, logistics techniques, innovative methods of construction and other leading construction techniques.

An Employment & Skills Plan is developed for each project, illustrating anticipated training and learning outcomes from the project.
